What can I expect?
Before we meet, you will have an opportunity to take advantage of your free phone consultation with me. I encourage this initial contact because it allows you to share your concerns and questions and it gives you a little taste of me and my style. It gives us both a great opportunity to see if this working relationship will be a good fit for you.
Once we've decided this is a good fit, you will be sent some initial paperwork forms. Please fill these out prior to our first session so that we may best use our time together working towards a plan for your treatment.
Our First session
Our first session will give us an opportunity to begin discussing what brings you to therapy. This is your chance to let me know what you're looking for, what seems missing, what you've done about it, and what you think you need to do about it. I will look over your paperwork with you and ask questions to get a better understanding of your specific experiences. This first session will be fairly directive and driven as we put together an understanding of where you've been and where you'd like to go.
If you decide to move forward following our first session, we will begin working on the issues you presented. During the first few visits I will be focusing on not only the initial issues you presented to me but also the therapeutic 'fit.' I encourage you to be doing the same as having a good therapeutic relationship is one vital key to a successful therapy experience. If the fit isn't good, I'll recommend you to some therapists that I think will be a good fit for you. If the fit is good, our work will continue. You can expect me to be warm, empathic, and supportive. You can expect me to challenge you to notice bodily sensations and emotions as they arise while we converse.
